About the Wigan Back to Netball League

The Wigan ‘Back to Netball’ League is an opportunity for women to progress from Back to Netball sessions into a more competitive environment and become part of a team, without the commitment of joining a club. Fixture dates are once a month at Leigh Indoor Sports Centre with teams having an allocated timeslot for their matches.

League Format

  • 3 divisions of 6 teams (maximum).
  • Teams will play 2-3 games of 16 minutes each month in their allocated time slot (8 minutes each way).
  • Timeslots will be 9-10:15am, 10:15-11:30am, 11:30am-12:45pm and will be rotated each month for the 3 divisions.
  • The league will be run over a 5-month period.
  • £25 for each fixture date (can be paid on the day), or Click here to pay online via Eventbrite.

Rules & Regulations

1a. Representatives for each team must be present for their timeslot (even if your team does not have a fixture), with the teams not playing providing a scorer/s for the matches being played. (In divisions of 5 teams, the team not playing must provide a scorer for each court. In divisions of 6, the two teams not playing must provide a scorer for one of the matches being played). (1pt penalty for a team not providing a scorer for a game).

1b. When scoring a match, scorers are advised to shout out the score after each goal scored. Guidance notes on how to score a netball game can be found in the documents section on the league website. How to Score a Netball Game?

1c. Teams must register at least 8 players for the season. Each team organiser must set up an account on the league website to register players. A link to do this can be requested from the league administrator

1d. Teamsheets will be available at the desk and on the website. These must be completed and handed in by all teams prior to their matches starting, with borrowed players listed. (1 point deducted if this is not completed prior to the start of your team's first match starting). If no teamsheet is provided at all, a 5-0 win will be awarded to the opposition for all matches played if they have won/drawn any of the games. (If the opposition win by more than 5 goals then the result will stand. If the win is by less than 5 goals the penalised team's GD will be adjusted accordingly).

1e. Teams can play 2 non-registered players per month but those players can only play WD or WA and these players must be put in the correct 'borrowed players' section on the teamsheet. A player can only be borrowed for 2 fixture dates each season. Non-registered players recorded incorrectly will result in a 5-0 win being awarded to the opposition if they have won/drawn the game. (If the opposition win by more than 5 goals then the result will stand. If the win is by less than 5 goals the penalised team's GD will be adjusted accordingly). Team name and captain’s signature sections on the teamsheet must also be completed.

1f. Playing more than 2 borrowed players, or playing borrowed players out of position, will result in a 5-0 win being awarded to the opposition if they have won/drawn the game (If the opposition win by more than 5 goals then the result will stand. If the win is by less than 5 goals the penalised team's GD will be adjusted accordingly).

1g. Borrowing the same player for more than 2 fixture dates in a season will result in a 5-0 win being awarded to the opposition if they have won/drawn the game. (If the opposition win by more than 5 goals then the result will stand. If the win is by less than 5 goals the penalised team's GD will be adjusted accordingly).

1h. Players can not play down a division. If a team borrows a player from a higher division, a 5-0 win will be awarded to the opposition if they have won/drawn the game. (If the opposition win by more than 5 goals then the result will stand. If the win is by less than 5 goals the penalised team's GD will be adjusted accordingly).

1i. In the event of both teams playing non-registered players, or borrowing players from a higher division, then result will be 0-0 and both teams will just receive 1 point for the loss.

1j. Teams must have a minimum of 5 players to start the game.

1k. If a team does not turn up for their fixtures, a 5-0 win will be awarded to their opponents. (The 1 point usually received for a loss will not be awarded).

1l. If you can not field a team for the month's fixtures, then 48 hours notice must be given to allow us to notify teams and amend fixtures. Failure to do so will result in a further 2 point deduction.
